Who we are

Boreal Praxis is an emergency management consultancy based in Ottawa and serving organizations across Canada. We believe emergencies are fundamentally about people, not just systems. We help leaders to think clearly, act decisively, and command with empathy.

We work with clients to translate policy into action. We ensure plans, training, and simulations are grounded in realism and humanity. We know that resilience isn't built on compliance, but on culture.

What we think

In a crisis, every decision reflects an underlying philosophy. Our approach balances the greatest good for the greatest number with a deep respect for human dignity.

We believe emergency management is defined by the ability to make difficult choices in service of others. We help organizations clarify their principles before a crisis, preparing them to act with integrity and conviction.

Preparedness is not the binder. It is a praxis: a living dance of theory and experience. Hence, the name. “Boreal” is for the resilient strength of the northern forests. “Praxis” is wisdom in action.

What we do

We help organizations anticipate, withstand, and recover from disruption, offering services across the emergency management continuum. We work with clients in healthcare, government, and the private sector, but our process always begins with listening.

We believe in the incredible human capacity to meet the most difficult challenges. Through collaborative workshops and continuous improvement, we help teams internalize the skills and mindsets that define resilience.

Where we work

We can always come to you, and “on site” is often best. However, if we need to have quiet and practical conversations or meet in larger groups, we are happy to host. Our beautiful space at 150 Elgin St is ideal for collaboration, conversation, and finding the spark. Parking, coffee, and snacks are included.
